Pixalated Contact Lenses

Pixalated Contact Lenses

We get this question all of the time. Why do your lenses look pixalated? The answer is very simple. All cosmetic contact lenses are pixalated. The reason is to allow some of your own eye color to come through the design. These clear pixels in the lens actually make the lens blend better with your eyes!

Bella Sky Blue Lenses

Take a close look at this lens. You can clearly see they clear spots. If the lens did not have this type of design they would look more like a solid Halloween lens.

In this example we have the Bella Blue Lenses. This lens has a tri color system that acts to blend with your natural eye color and offer that special pop to your eyes.

The first color is the gold starburst in the middle of the lens. That pulls the center of the lens back a little put and offers a tad bit of color like a natural eye would have.

The second is the blue itself. Pixalated to blend with your eye color. Notice the staggered pattern? So it doesn’t look so uniform.

This is the dark ring around the edge. This is called a limbal ring. This gives your eyes a more brighter and healthier look. Studies show that people with darker limbal. rings on their eyes are preceived as more attractive.

To know how they will look we measure it by a process we call DTE ( Distance To Effect ). The DTE is a scale of 1-10+. A rating of DTE 1 means that the lenses look realistic from 1 foot away. A DTE rating of 10+ means that your eye color should be noticible from 10+ feet away.

The average distance a person has from others in social and work settings in 3-5 feet. If you think about when you are out and at work or a club. How close are you going to be to another person to notice that you are wearing cosmetic lenses?

It’s a constant game of tug of war. If your DTE number is too low then only people that are up close and personal will be able to notice your eye color change. The effect can completely vanish even just a few feet away. If your DTE number is too high then your color change can be extremely vibrant and not natural in close distance.

Now the same lenses worn by our model Becca are rated as a DTE of 3-5. You can see in this image the Bella Green Envy give her dark brown eyes a little lift within that range. Farther than 5 feet and the effect may be lost. So a DTE of 3-5 is very common and popular. Realistic for everyday use.
